In this project I have dealt with the subject of the search for identity and the consequent struggle to free oneself from those influences and prejudices that oppress us day by day. The action carried out in the project shows my mother putting me in a straitjacket, from which i want to free myself, in order to master my fears and find my reaffirmation.
"We are born locked up. We cast off our chains as we grow up" this saying describes perfectly the conflict the project talks about. When we are born we are attached to our family without any criteria for selection, we are born where we are born, period, and it is our task to accept it and question life beyond what we have been taught. The values with which I grew up are represented in my mother's black dress, which acts as a symbol of the irrefutable and of her marked personality, which tries to absorb the white colour of the shirt preventing it from soaking in other colours.
The action takes place in a domestic space, my house, where I grew up and where I keep all my memories. It should be noted that my house was built by my mother, an architect. Therefore architecture plays a very important role in my life and in my project representing, on the one hand, my place of refuge and, on the other hand, a space of imprisonment. As Louis Bourgeois said "Architecture has to be an object of our memory. When we evoke, when we conjure up memory to make it clearer, we stack up associations in the same way that we stack up bricks to build a building. Memory is a form of architecture." Like Bourgeois on this occasion, he uses architecture as a memory of his mother, whom he admires, but he recognizes her differences.
Finally, as Goethe said: "There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One is roots, the other is wings".
